Nantong blue calico is known for its printing and dyeing techniques and its bright and harmonious styles. Its patterns mostly depict plants, flowers and animals, expressing people’s pursuit for a better life.

It has a history of over a thousand years. Since the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911), it has been widely popular in Nantong, becoming the only region in China that continuously inherits blue calico. Therefore, Nantong is named the "hometown of Chinese blue calico".

The printing and dyeing technique of Nantong blue calico has been listed as one of the first national intangible cultural heritage projects, and its core skill is blue dyeing.

In productive protection, we adhere to manual engraving, mixing the paste, dyeing, and Scraping white processes. The dye still uses plant dyes and is dyed after being adjusted with grey wine. The core skill of blue dyeing is an important aspect of the productive protection of Nantong blue calico.
